Whey protein is a protein supplement used by athletes, body builders, and average women, or men trying to build muscle or optimize athletic performance. Alot of people are quick to have a protein shake or two throughout the day without thinking about if they really need it. Is whey protein bad for you?
Whey protein is one of the proteins found in milk along with casein. It is seperated from the casein or formed as a by-product of cheese making. Is is a complete protein with all 9 essential animo acids. It is has many benefits that can also come from a real food diet. If one is to consume whey protein the suggested amount is 20-25 grams a day or less depending on your needs.
It is recommend to get your protein from a healthy diet and not protein supplementation. To much whey protein can put strain on the liver and kidneys, increase body fat, and cause other health issues. It is important to know how much whey protein to consume if you decide to consume it. Usually one serving a day is enough which is right around the suggested daily intake.
Knowing how many grams of protein per day is important. The DRI( Dietary Reference Intake) is 0.36 grams per pound of body weight. This is 56 grams per day for the average sedentary man and 46 per day for the average sedentary women. For athletes or more active people protein consumption is 0.5-0.7 grams per pound of body weight. If an athlete weighs 150 pound the protein intake per day should be 75-85 grams of protein per day.
So is whey protein bad for you? It can be if you consume to much. Always remember to limit your daily intake if you decide to use it and allways get most if not all of your protein from a healthy protein diet. Since protein powder is processed your best bet is to get protein from fish, nuts, beef, chicken, and other real protein foods.
About 25% of americans eat fast food more then twice a week. Everybody eats fast food at one point or another. It just depends on how much you eat and what you eat. If you consume fast food more then once or twice a week that’s probably more then you should. Not everyone has a perfect diet however eating fast food consistently is not one of the healthiest choices.
Fast food industries scored a 48 out of 100 for the Federal Nutrition Guidelines for Americans. Fast food usually has a high amount of calories, unhealthy fats, sugar, and sodium. Fast food also contributes to obesity. Eating fast food once in a while isnt nearly as bad as multiple times per week. Fast food restaurants usually dont focus advertisements on healthier eating options however restaurants menus do a have a selection of healthier options that are sometimes overlooked.
So if you decide to stop by a fast food restaurant once in a while say maybe one to three times a month while regularly eating a somewhat healthy balanced diet, then I wouldn’t worry too much especially when you have the option to order healthier options. So yes fast food is bad for you no matter how you look at it but consuming it every once in a while isn’t terrible.
MMA has become increasing popular over the last few years. MMA may seem dangerous at first glance but did you know that MMA is safer than boxing? There has been a lot more serious and fatal injuries reported in boxing then in MMA. There are rules in MMA that keep the fighter safer.
Different sized gloves
The size of the boxing glove makes a difference. Since the glove is bigger and has a lot of padding more impact is absorbed to the head of the opponent. In MMA the glove is a lot thinner making alot more direct contact with the persons fist. This doesn’t disperse as much impact to the head which makes the MMA glove safer.
Standing eight count
In boxing there is a standing eight count. This rule gives fighters eight seconds to get back up after they’ve been knocked down by a punch. The problem with this is that a boxer can suffer a concussion and then get back up a few seconds later to fight. Getting knocked out after already having a concussion can be very dangerous.
Of course somebody can suffer a concussion while fighting in MMA and continue. However in MMA when the fighter is knocked out or unable to defend themselves the fight is usually stopped. This makes the rules in MMA safer.
In MMA the rounds are shorter. Pro MMA has three five-minute rounds or five five-minute rounds for championship fights. In pro boxing the rounds can be anywhere from four to twelve depending on experience. Twelve is for championship fights.
Striking, grappling, and submissions
In MMA kicks and knees are allowed. This means more areas can be targeted such as the midsection and legs resulting in less strikes to the head as opposed to boxing which is just punches.
Fights have been won in MMA before by not throwing any strikes. The grappling aspect of MMA allows a fighter to take the fight to the floor. Once on the floor a fighter can win by tko or submission. This also makes MMA safer than boxing.
At the end of the day MMA seems to be significantly safer than boxing for a few reasons.
Jogging is known as a great way to exercise. It is also a great way to burn calories and relieve stress. Jogging has many benefits which make it worth while. Although jogging is beneficial there has been some debate on wether or not jogging too much is bad for you. The short answer is yes, jogging too much can be bad for you.
It is recommended to only jog three days per week for a total of one to two hours. The days should be spaced out throughout the week. The American College of Cardiology concluded that Pushing the limit jogging every day for long periods of time can be worse for your health compared to not jogging at all. Also that heavy duty runners also have a lower life expectancy compared to those who didnt run at all.
Sprinting is different from jogging. With that said jogging to quickly can also be bad for your health. It is best to jog at a moderate steady pace while jogging on the balls of your feet. This also insures that not to much force is being sent into your knees.
Jogging alone is not as bad for your knees as some people claim. It can actually be beneficial. However applying to much pressure to the ground or jogging to quickly can be a little harsh on your knees. Too much jogging can be bad for the knees. If you already have arthritis or have pain and discomfort in your knees it is always best to address these issues with a doctor before deciding to jog. Jogging on the balls on your feet at a steady moderate pace while applying minimal force to the ground will ensure your knees stay safe.
This one might sound a little scary but were talking about alot of jogging. Too much jogging for long periods of time can cause microtears in the heart. They will heal but can cause heart problems down the road. As an average runner you shouldnt have to worry. People at risk are the ones who compete in marathons. For example an elite runner will sometimes run around 100 miles in a week.
So with all this said just make sure that your not over doing it and you’ll be just fine.
